Teenagers in a north Norfolk town can get a financial boost for their education after a community grant has been made available.

Applications for the Aylsham Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Trust grant fund, organised by Aylsham Town Council, can now be made and the deadline is Thursday, February 28.

Anyone aged under 20 who has been a resident in the parish; a student at Aylsham High School; or an active member in a recognised community organisation in the town for at least two years can apply.

Grants are awarded towards the cost of educational trips or visits but these must be a one-off and not part of a course.

The money can also be used for events connected to a young person's chosen career.

Grants cannot be used for course fees.

Past successful applications have helped to fund visits to different countries including Malawi, Indonesia, Switzerland, Italy as well as within Britain.

Each recipient of a grant has to produce a report of his or her experiences.

Full information and application forms are available from the town council website at www.aylsham-tc.gov.uk or from the town council office on the Market Place during normal opening hours, which are Monday to Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The trust was originally formed following the Silver Jubilee celebrations and was called the Silver Jubilee Trust.

It was renamed in 2002 following the Golden Jubilee celebrations when a significant amount of the proceeds from various events was added to the capital of the trust.

Three trustees are involved in the scheme, all of whom must be Aylsham residents, and at least one must be a serving town councillor. The others may be past councillors.
