Father Christmas brings joy to children around the world, and an appeal that brought Santa's sleigh to the streets of North Walsham has spread cheer in another way.

North Walsham Round Table raised more than £3,200 from its annual Christmas appeal, which sees Father Christmas in a sleigh visit residential streets around the town to draw donations.

The appeal was supported by the group North Walsham Play, which has now received half of the proceeds - £1,608.98 - to go towards improving the town's play facilities.

Ed Margarson, the appeal's organiser, said: 'The round table and I are overwhelmed at the level of support given. It was great to see so many children enjoy seeing Santa and his sleigh visit so many roads across the town during December.'

North Walsham Play trustee Matthew Smith said: 'We have really enjoyed helping Santa and his elves once again as they visit many parts of North Walsham.'
