A 38-year-old man has been jailed after admitting stealing lead from a building site in north Norfolk.

Wayne Robertson, of Wathen Way in Marsham, pleaded guilty at a Norwich Magistrates Court hearing last week after incidents on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12 at sites in Trunch and Bodham.

Police were called around 7am on May 12 after Robertson was stopped at the site in Bodham by the owner who discovered rolls of lead in his vehicle.

Officers attended and whilst detaining him, further enquiries revealed that lead had been stolen from another building site in Trunch overnight of 11 May.

Robertson was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and subsequently charged with being found in or upon enclosed premises, contrary to section 4 of the Vagrancy Act 1824, burglary and breach of a suspended sentence order.

He was sentenced to a total of 28 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay £140 in victim surcharges.
