Public Christmas lights which were stolen in Cromer can now be replaced thanks to a generous donation.

The town’s East of England Co-op Funeral Service has donated £200 the Christmas lights team following the thefts, which happened in early January.

A green light which lit an alternative Christmas tree in front of Cromer Museum and two sets of string lights from the front of the parish hall were taken.

Mary Wilson, funeral co-ordinator, presented a cheque to David and Judy Whittingham from the Christmas lights team and Jim Bond, who organises the alternative tree.

She said: “When I read they had been stolen I couldn’t believe it.

“On those cold days in winter, the lights brighten up my day and I’m sure they brighten up everybody else’s too.”

Mrs Whittingham said: “It was so lovely of them to make this donation. It’s heartening, and we’re very grateful.”
