Parts of East Anglia could experience high pollution levels today as the mini April heatwave continues.

Temperatures across the region are set to high the high twenties and this high pressure has led to increased pollution levels.

The air pollution forecast from the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs states: “Areas of moderate levels of air pollution are likely across England and Wales, especially over eastern England where localised High air pollution levels are possible near the coast.”

For many it will be the hottest day of the year today and Norwich-based forecaster Weatherquest said there will be “long spells of hazy sunshine”.

“Exceptionally warm with light winds and sea breezes developing,” they said, “top temperatures of 24C to 27c but cooler on the east coast with onshore winds keeping temperatures nearer 14C to 16C.” The mercury is expected to stay above 23C until Sunday.

The warm blast will see parts of the country be hotter than some European destinations, including Malaga in Spain at 21C and Athens in Greece at 23C.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said it is “not especially” unusual to see such temperatures, adding: “Quite often we would have already gone above 20C by this time in the year.

“It is quite normal for spring to be like this and to bring some colder spells and some temperatures like this.”
