A campaign to turn some Norfolk roads into a 20mph zone has taken a step forward.

Norfolk County Council is to start a consultation on having the speed limit reduced from 30mph on the residential section of Aylsham Road in North Walsham as well as the adjoining Queensway, Cherry Tree Lane and Princess Street.

County councillor Eric Seward, who has worked with the town council and residents on the campaign to have the speed limit cut, said: "I am now hugely optimistic that there will be a 20mph speed limit on Aylsham Road.

"It has been a long process but the end is now in sight."

Bernie Marfleet of the Aylsham Road Save our Street (SOS) group said: "We are delighted to hear that the 20mph speed limit we have been campaigning for has taken a huge step forward in making Aylsham Road safer for pedestrians especially children on this pavement-less, busy and dangerous stretch of road which is the main route for buses and lorries."
