A specialist school that required improvement at its first Ofsted inspection has turned around its fortunes in just six months.

The Stables independent school in Brumstead, near Stalham, met all the independent school standards that were checked at a monitoring inspection in September.

The school, which was opened in September 2018 by Clover Childcare Services, received its first standard inspection in March. At that time, the school was judged to require improvement as a result of several of the standards not being adequately met.

Since March, the proprietors and school leaders have produced and implemented a detailed action plan which has ensured that all the standards are now met fully.

These include the quality of education provided with curriculum policies and plans in place, the quality of teaching, which is consistently high across the school, and the quality of leadership in and management of the school.

Ofsted praised the "passionate determination of leaders, staff and other senior staff" and highlighted the "clear and highly effective" relationships between adults and pupils.

And the report said: "Leaders have continued to improve the quality and consistency of teaching across all age ranges. Work in older pupils' books demonstrates a significant improvement since the previous inspection."

Lead inspector Kim Hall stated in her report that, "teachers plan interesting activities to help pupils remain enthusiastic" and added "pupils talk about their learning and are proud of their learning".

Headteacher Tasha Foucher said: "Following our successful Ofsted monitoring visit we will continue to work hard and implement our clear development priorities to provide our pupils with a rich and engaging school experience."

The previous report in March had found that the quality of teaching at the school was not "consistently high" and its overall rating was that it required improvement.

The school, which is based at the old rectory, has 12 pupils on roll, aged from six to 14, and it takes youngsters with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

Pupils are children who are looked after and placed at the school by local authorities. The annual fees for day pupils are £31,200.
