A cast of 44 children from reception to year six at the St Nicholas House prep school in North Walsham explored themes of childhood and peer pressure in the play based on the musical ‘Oliver’, and the 1838 Charles Dickens novel, ‘Oliver Twist’.

Written by the school’s drama teacher Kate Carlton-Paterson, the show tells the story of Jess, a schoolgirl who struggles with fitting in, peer pressure and conforming.

The play, set in the present day, was based on the idea that the bravest thing you can do in life is be yourself.

St Nicholas House’s head of music and the show’s director, Anne Berry-Smith said: “The children really had an affinity with the subject matter.

“This made an ordinary end of year performance extraordinary.”

The school put on two 2pm productions, on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 19 and 20.
