An appeal to open a cookery classroom for pupils at Sheringham Primary School is a step closer to its target, thanks to a summer fair which raised nearly £3,000.
The annual event, which was organised by PTA members , included stalls selling toys, books and bric-a-brac donated by pupils and parents, as well as games, a teddy tombola and performances by the school choir and local dance group True Motion.
Also featured were a raffle with prizes donated by parents and local businesses and a silent auction with lots ranging from cakes, cream teas and trips out to local attractions, to restaurant vouchers and one-to-one art and craft workshops.
Deputy head teacher Sue Brady said the cookery classroom would encourage healthy eating, enable staff to run after-school cookery sessions, and inspire pupils to be creative in the kitchen.
She added: "We are very grateful for the support of local businesses. Half the money raised at the summer fair was from the auction and raffle, which, I think, just goes to show what an important part of the community we are."
