Gruffalos galore, a collection of cats in hats and a whole row of Rotten Romans were among the characters taking part in a World Book Day (WBD) celebration held at Sheringham Primary School.

The event, which was due to take place on March 1st, but had to be rescheduled because of snow, was organised by teachers Alex Snadden and Suzanne Clitheroe.

Each class did activities based on a well-known book for six weeks, before taking part in WBD events ranging from art workshops and storytelling sessions, to a reading and writing challenge.

Youngsters and staff donned storybook costumes, with a number of classes also contacting their chosen author, some of whom responded by sending signed books and video messages.

Mr Snadden, whose Year 6 class focused on Terry Deary’s Horrible Histories series, said: “I have been absolutely blown away by the amount of effort children, staff and parents have gone to, it has brought everyone together with the overriding theme of books.”
