Students at Sheringham High School have struck up a new link with their counterparts in the French twin town of Muzillac.

After home and away visits, the school and the Collge Sainte Thrse are keen to develop a long-lasting partnership.

The first leg saw a Sheringham group led by teachers Dawn Hollidge and Jayne Melhuish head to Brittany via an overnight stay in Paris, where students were able to visit the Eiffel Tower, Arc-de-Triomphe and Tour Montparnasse as well as practice their French in a hotel and restaurant.

On Monday evening the group arrived in Muzillac and finally met their penfriends and their families at a reception hosted by the Muzillac-Sheringham twinning committee. Students were very well looked after by their host families and were treated to lots of Breton specialities such as seafood and cakes.

Marilyne Fenner from the French school organised lots of fun activities during the week, including a boat trip to an island, a quiz which helped students explore Muzillac and a guided visit in Vannes.

The group was formally welcomed together with a group of visiting adults from Sheringham at the town hall, where the deputy mayor and the headteacher of the French school made it very clear that they hoped this was the beginning of a long-lasting partnership for the two schools.

The French group arrived in Sheringham on Monday to be welcomed by a reception.

As well as joining lessons in the school the guests were taken to Norwich for shopping, bowling and a trip to the castle museum, as well as an afternoon in Sheringham including a visit to the Mo museum and guided tour led by Hugh Bradbury, chairman of the Sheringham –Muzillac twinning committee.

Many friendships have been formed and the students intend to stay in contact via letters and social network sites, and another exchange is being planned for next year showing the spirit of 'entente cordiale' is alive and well.
