The efforts of some of Sheringham's unsung heroes will be celebrated in a new community awards scheme being launched at the annual town meeting on May 14.

More than 20 nominations have been put forward and town mayor Madeleine Ashcroft will be handing out certificates, with the meeting also providing an opportunity for residents to hear a presentation on the newly-completed Town Plan.

Deputy mayor Liz Withington said the event would give people a chance share views, find out about local groups and organisations, discuss future plans, including the council's planned move to the community centre, and meet newly-elected town and district councillors.

'More than 200 people attended the 2018 meeting and we are hoping for similar numbers this year,' she added. 'Local organisations will be taking part and we see this as an important opportunity to engage with the community and ensure people have a clear understanding of the direction the town is taking.'
