The Queen of Sheringham Carnival will be chosen from dozens of hopefuls at an event for local women held at the Tyneside Club.

The selection day on April 15 from 7.30pm will give women the chance to fill in an entry form and put themselves forward for the prestigious position.

The Queen will become the face of Sheringham Carnival, judge competitions and present awards during the week-long festivities.

In return she will receive a free fitted dress, hair and make-up and 150 in prize money.

She will also get to ride through the town in a Rolls Royce and a horse-drawn carriage as part of the carnival procession.

Two others will also be chosen to act as the Queen's attendants.

All entrants will receive a gift for entering and there will be a bar and dancing on the night.

Entrants are advised to 'dress to impress' and will have to be interviewed with judges at the event.

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply, as long as they live within three miles of St Peters Church in Sheringham and are available during carnival week.

Sheringham Carnival will take place from Saturday July 30 to Sunday August 7, with the main parade on the Sunday.

Last year the Carnival Queen was Rachel Popham, and Mica McClean and Rachel Lambert were chosen as her attendants.
