A search is underway for a headless seal which was spotted on the beach.

A couple spotted the dead animal on the beach at Bacton last week and warned others from going too close.

North Norfolk District Council said efforts were underway to find the seal’s body, a task made challenging by the nature of the tide and the beach.

If found, the seal would be removed.

Sally Dunham, from Bacton, said saw the seal on the beach last week.

She said: “This seal has not got a head, as someone must have cut it off.

“I’m trying to get it moved. It’s smelling really badly and I think people should be warned not to go near it.”

Anyone with information who could help with the search can report it to the council on 01263 516307.
