A Sea Scouting group are celebrating after a cash boost which has helped them with building a new hut.

The Buxton and Lamas Sea Scouts' have been fundraising for a new hut on the Balay Buxton and Lamas Area Youth Park since 2007 with a range of different events.

An auction of promises, held at the end of last year and which included 169 lots, raised around 3,000.

The group have also held charity balls, Boxing Day swims and barn dances, all to help raise the 65,000 needed for a new hut.

Their efforts have been boosted by a 3,000 grant from Norfolk Community Foundation, awarded in June this year.

The grant has helped them to build interior block work in the hut, to divide up the rooms.

The hut, which it is hoped will be completed and ready to use by the end of this year, will include a small kitchen, toilets, a storage area and a main activity room.

Sea Scouts spokesman Jean Gillingwater, said: 'The grant from Norfolk Community Foundation was a huge benefit. Our biggest trouble has been because we are in such a rural area, we have had to widen our scope to get sponsorship and grants, we have also done a lot of fundraising ourselves.'

As well as the grant from the community foundation, the group have also received donations from anonymous benefactors and other grants from various organisations, including 500 from the Charles Littlewood Hill Trust.
