BUMPER boxes of playground games are being delivered to all north Norfolk's schools to help children have fun, keep fit, out-of-trouble - and encourage them to take part in competitions.

High schools plus the 54 primary and first schools are each receiving about £200 worth of equipment.

The haul, funded by the North Norfolk Schools Sports Partnership, includes everything from spacehoppers, balls and balance bars, to rackets, hoops and packs of jacks, or five-stones.

Playground staff have been trained in how to help pupils make the most of the games, according to Julie Zulu, school sports co-ordinator with the partnership.

It's al;l part of a nationwide government get-fit initiative aimed at children.

Four competition managers had been appointed in the county to set up B, C and D league tournaments and festivals, said Mrs Zulu.

“Taking part in sports competitions is valuable,” she added. “It's good for children's health and it can teach them about discipline and teamwork.”

Dinner lady Sharon McCann was among those helping to unpack the boxes at St Michael's School, Aylsham.

“I think the children will go mad for it when they see it all!” she said..”
