A post office fighting to stay open remains “optimistic” about the future, but is urging people to continue the battle.

With the help of supportive villagers, East Runton sub postmaster, Steve Bacon has delivered over 400 bundles containing letters, posters from the EDP's Fight for Your Post Office campaign and addressed envelopes for people to take part in the consultation about the proposed closures.

Villagers have also received a letter from North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb outlining his concerns and asking villagers to sign and return a declaration of support.

He said that the post office had shown little regard for the success of post office near Cromer which had achieved increased business and revenue.

The letters have been sent in the run up to various public meetings where the closures will be discussed.

Mr Bacon said: “We are up for the fight. We are optimistic because we have had so much support, from the locals, from the tourists, from the councils and from Norman Lamb.”

Philippa MacDonald moved into a new house next door to the post office specifically so her 82-year-old mother could independently use the facility - only to find out a week later it was earmarked for possible closure.

She said that she was “shocked” that such a busy post office might be closed.
