A lorry crashed into an old post office building in a north Norfolk village leaving debris at the scene and resulting in a road closure.

Police advised people this morning to avoid the Langham Road area of Binham, after they were called to a single vehicle collision at 7am on Monday, December 18.

Officers received reports of a lorry in collision with a building, which resulted in debris being scattered across the scene of the accident.

Neighbours reportedly came out in support of the elderly couple who took care of the building, which dates back to 1923.

The incident is said to have occurred when a livestock transporter approached a hairpin bend, and left the building as “a pile of rubble”.

The building is next door to a butcher’s shop, which was undamaged in the crash.

The driver was uninjured and there was no one inside the building at the time of the collision.

Police remained on the scene managing the flow of traffic, and Highways England were called out to remove the debris.

North Norfolk Police (@NorthNorfPolice) said in a tweet at around 8.30am: “Langham Road in Binham is currently closed due to a single vehicle RTC. Please avoid the area if possible.”

Police stated at around 11.45am that the road had been reopened.
