Villagers in Lammas, near Coltishall, are putting the final touches to their borders and flower beds ready for a 'gardens open' event.

Seven gardens will be open on Saturday and Sunday (July 7 and 8) 11-5pm, at addresses ranging from small cottages to large houses that are usually private, but have been carefully nurtured to create dazzling displays.

Plants and gardening kit will be on sale, as well as homemade ice-creams and Pimms. Lunches will be served in a marquee by the River Bure.

Georgie Graver, one of the organisers, said: 'Lammas is one of those villages in Norfolk that very few people know about. Some people drive through it without seeing what's really here. We do not open our gardens very often so this will be a great opportunity to see the village at its prettiest.'

Villagers have also created a gnome trail with garden gnomes painted to look like famous people. Admission is £5 a head.
