READER LETTER: 'Our land was not 'stolen''
PUBLISHED: 08:10 16 March 2019
The opinion of Jenny Kelly and other members of the North Norfolk Amnesty Group chairman that "settlements are an abomination" and that "the settlements are at the centre of the conflict-plagued Israeli-Palestinian issue" (North Norfolk News, March 7) is not only factually wrong but inciteful.
Israel constructed no ‘settlements’ in that area between 1948-1967 yet, as we know, Arab terror was rampant throughout those 19 years and the PLO itself, whose goal was the ‘liberate’ Palestine was founded in 1964, three years before Israel came in possession of the historic portions of the Jewish homeland.
Were they then at the conflict’s centre?
The League of Nations awarded the Jewish people the right of ‘close settlement’ in that land due to the Jewish people’s historic connection.
Even the later United Nations partition plan did not prohibit Jews from residing there.
The only persons who ‘stole’ land were the marauding tribes that came out of Arabia in the 7th Century, conquered and occupied the Jewish homeland and instituted over the following centuries anti-Jewish suppression.
Tourists should come, visit, enjoy the sites and make their own judgment about the political conflict.
