Six signs encouraging voters to plump for an independent candidate in the recent council elections were pinched.

Police are investigating the theft of the election campaign signs in Hindolveston, south of Holt.

The signs, which were being displayed on behalf of an independent in the North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) poll, were stolen from the grass verge at the junction of Melton Road and The Street between Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30.

Hindolveston is part of NNDC's Stibbard ward, which was won by Conservative Vincent FiztPatrick in the May 2 election. No independent candidates stood in that ward.

Anyone who has information about the theft should contact the Safer Neighbourhood Team at Fakenham Police Station on 101.
