Plans have been put forward for 100 new homes in Holt, but concerns have been raised about how new housing could spoil the town.

The proposals from developer Landform Estates, are for around 100 new homes – including a large element of affordable housing, on eight acres of land to the north of Peacock Lane in Holt, close to the town centre.

A public exhibition discussing the plans and with the chance to meet the design team is set to be held at the Holt Community Centre, on Wednesday from 2.30pm to 8pm.

Landform director Erik Pagano said: 'We are holding the exhibition so that residents of the town can review and comment on the proposals with us.

'This is an exciting project for us and we hope the local community agrees that the town needs high-quality new homes. We look forward to an open and constructive meeting. All interested parties are invited and we hope to deal with any issues – such as the opportunity for improvements to the nearby public open space at King George V playing fields – which the public may have in relation to the site.'

The land was allocated for housing development in the Local Development Framework planning blueprint by a government inspector, who favoured it ahead of the land near Gresham's School, something which has raised concerns with residents.

In April this year at a Holt town council meeting councillors were urged by local residents to be vigilant that the new housing would not spoil Holt.

Others raised concerns about further parking and traffic problems a new housing development could cause in Holt.

Once the public exhibition has been held, Landform will be reviewing the comments made and expects to submit an outline planning application to North Norfolk District Council next month.
