She is usually at home in the skies, working as a commercial airline pilot or soaring about in her glider.

But Sarah Kelman told of a different kind of blue wilderness adventure when she paid a visit to the North Norfolk Photographic Society.

The Cambridge resident presented photos of her journey in a sailboat across the Atlantic with her husband and children aged six and seven, which they did as part of an inaugural Panerai Transat Classique ocean race from Cascais, Portugal to the West Indies.

Mrs Kelman showed photos of preparing the boat, the excitement of the start, the vagaries of the weather and the huge welcome they received at the finish.

Along the way, torn sails had to be stitched back together and they saw no other boats or ships except one yacht. The society meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month at the Holt Community Centre. For more details visit www.nnphotosoc.org.
