It is not the usual place you would expect to find a pianist sitting down to play - but sounds of sweet music could be heard coming from a seaside information centre as an art exhibition with a difference was launched.

A newly-tuned and decorated piano was put into place outside Cromer Tourist Information Centre on Thursday with the help of the kitchen crew from the Lobster Pub in Sheringham, all dressed in full kitchen outfits.

And putting the piano, decorated to look like a wizard, straight to use and welcoming visitors into town, were pianists and local musicians.

The event marks the launch of the Cromer and Sheringham Arts Festival, (COAST) Unusual Art in Unusual Places exhibition.

Three pianos, saved from the piano bashing event which took place as part of the Cromer Carnival in August, have been placed around Cromer and Sheringham as part of the exhibition.

As well as the lobby of Cromer Tourist Information Centre, pianos can also be found under the Clock Tower in Sheringham, decorated as a lizard by children from the Upcher Community Partnership, and in the courtyard of The Lobster pub in Sheringham, painted in a surreal style.

They will be left there during the COAST Festival for people to play.

Siri Taylor, who is helping with the exhibition, said: 'All of the pianos have been tuned very differently, so the one in Cromer has a honky-tonk sound, the one at the clock tower has a plain tone and the one in the Lobster courtyard has quite a mellow sound.'

Bids of 50 and over are being taken for each of the pianos. Bids can be delivered to Merchant's Place in Cromer and the Upcher Partnership building in Station Road, Sheringham

The COAST arts festival is running at venues from Salthouse to Overstrand from October 23-31, and includes music, drama, literature, art and craft.
