Mother Nature staged a spectacular fireworks display over north Norfolk last night as the day's sweltering temperatures gave way to dramatic lightning and thunderstorms.

Among those who captured the fantastic light show was Sheringham photographer Chris Taylor, who was sheltering from the rain at the resort's boating lake.

Mr Taylor was taking photos between 11pm and 1am and said the most spectacular strikes came at about 12.30am this morning.

'We had a full panorama across the sea and cliffs,' he said.

Mr Taylor used a tripod-mounted Canon 5D mark 3 camera with a Canon 16-35mm lens and used a 30-second exposure.

UEA-based Weatherquest's Dan Holley tweeted shortly before 11pm that radar was 'highlighting thunderstorms along east Norfolk.

'It's been most active in places such as Stalham, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.'

Weatherquest forecaster Chris Bell said we could be in store for some more dramatic skies this afternoon and into the evening.

He said: 'There's the potential this afternoon and early evening for more thunder storms across the region although I don't think we're going to see the same as we saw last night.'

Mr Bell said any storms would clear by 8pm or 9pm before what he described would be a more settled week with dry conditions and temperatures of between 24C and 27C, until Thursday at least.
