A man has had to be rescued after he fell into a cesspit.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue crews from North Walsham, Aylsham and Carrow stations were called into help the man, in his 50s, who had fallen into the pit at a property in Aylsham Road, in the north Norfolk village of Swanton Abbott.

The service was called at 11.03am today (Tuesday, June 19) and the man was later seen to by the ambulance service.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue said: “Appliances from North Walsham, Aylsham and Carrow were mobilised to a person that had fallen in a cesspit on Aylsham Road. The crews manually released the casualty into the care of the ambulance service.”

An ambulance service spokesman said: “The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust dispatched an ambulance and ambulance officer to the scene where we cared for the man. After being examined by the crew, the man was discharged at the scene.”
