About 90kg of palm oil has been removed from a north Norfolk beach, but the situation will continue to be monitored.
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) issued a warning to beach visitors after lumps of palm oil washed up on beaches between Bacton and Mundesley earlier in the week. Although the substance is harmless to humans, it is toxic to dogs, and dog walkers were advised to avoid the beach or keep their pets on leads.
A council spokesman said today: 'The palm oil that was on the beach between Bacton and Mundesley has now been collected and removed by our contractors. About 90kg of palm oil, which is non-hazardous waste, was removed. NNDC will monitor the situation and deal immediately with any further sightings of palm oil.'
It followed a spate of other reports which saw chunks of palm oil washed up on south Norfolk and Suffolk beaches.
