North Walsham students are set to bring a horror classic to the stage.

Far East Theatre Company, Paston Sixth Form College's youth theatre company, will be performing The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, in the Paston Theatre, based at North Walsham, in early February.

The play and production is a collaboration between staff and former students of Paston and takes place from Tuesday, February 8 to Friday, February 11 at 7.30pm each night.

There is also a matinee for students in local schools on Wednesday, February 9 at 1.30pm.

Dr Caligari is written by George Norton, head of English and drama, and former student, Nell Burnham, based on the silent German horror film of the same name.

Mr Norton said: 'I had taught the film for years and often thought it would make an interesting piece of theatre. It's got lots of weirdly compelling characters and an incredibly strong storyline with a brilliant twist at the end.'

Nell, who finished her A-Levels at Paston in June 2010 and is taking a year out before going on to read English at university in September, added: 'Writing the play with George has been a fantastic challenge, and it's been great being involved with Far East again.'

The production is co-directed by Mr Norton and another ex-Paston student, Rachael Morrison from Aysham, who has just completed a degree in English and Theatre Studies at Lancaster University.

Tickets for the play are priced 5, or 2 for students and concessions. They are available from the box office on 01692 402334.
