North Walsham pupils given sea safety lessons
PUBLISHED: 18:00 24 June 2011
Sun, sea and safety were on the order of the day for pupils at a North Walsham school.
The RNLI visited Millfield Primary School to discuss and advocate how to keep safe at the beach.
They displayed different pieces of equipment such as lifeguard and safety flags, posters and safety and rescue apparatus and also explained in detail what the flags meant and how a red flag means ‘danger’ and to never enter the water under any circumstances.
The lifeguards then asked for volunteers from the audience to come and try on their lifeguard equipment and went through what to do if someone gets into trouble in the sea or at the beach.
A spokesman from the school said: “The children enjoyed the demonstration and by the end the assembly were fully aware of how to keep and stay safe at the beach and what to do in an emergency.”
