The north Norfolk branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) has welcomed its 2,000th member.

Graham Cliff was given a book token to support his learning, and a bottle of fizz to support his living and laughing to mark the milestone at the U3A's January meeting, which took place at Blakeney.

Mr Cliff and his wife Sue moved to Kettlestone, near Fakenham, three years ago from Derby after they retired.

They had initially planned to make north Norfolk merely a long-term holiday retreat, but enjoyed visiting so much they decided to relocate permanently.

Mr Cliff said living in Norfolk was 'life Utopia' - not just for the U3A but because of a whole range of opportunities the county's north gave them for leading an active and fulfilling life.

North Norfolk U3A chairman Vic Cocker presented Mr Cliff with the gifts, and a certificate marking his special membership.
