More than 500 Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers from all over north Norfolk took part in a St George's Day parade along the clifftops from West Runton to Beeston Hall School, for an open-air service attended by the High Sheriff of Norfolk, Clare, the Lady Agnew of Oulton.

Twelve north Norfolk Scout groups carried standards for each of their sections, with Great Yarmouth Sea Cadets marching band leading the way.

Honouring the host group's connection to the West Runton Elephant, the event included a presentation by Scouts on the history of the village and the discovery in 1990 of the mammoth skeleton, followed by a renewal of promises and the presentation of the St George flag to exemplary group of the year, 1st Hoveton and Wroxham Scout Group.

The day's events, which were organised by district commissioner Paul Henriksen and West Runton Group Scout leader Helen Cardani, culminated in tea and refreshments in the school dining hall, followed by a collection in aid of the East Anglia Children's Hospices Nook appeal.
