Residents of north Norfolk are being reminded not to give financial or other personal details to cold-callers.
It follows reports that an impersonator of someone at the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) in Brighton has been making telephone calls, promising to look into council-tax banding but asking for people's bank details at the same time.
The VOA – part of HM Revenue and Customs – values properties for council tax and for non-domestic rates in England and Wales.
It does not make unsolicited contact with households to ask for bank details.
People should never hand over any financial details to callers claiming to be from reputable organisations, whether that be a government agency, a council, a utilities company or a bank.
