Cat lovers across Norfolk are being asked to pull together to save a Sheringham cat sanctuary.

The future of North Norfolk Cats Lifeline Trust hangs in the balance after the sanctuary and charity's founder, Gay Rees, died earlier this year.

Now a team of volunteers and trustees have sworn to carry on Mrs Rees' work - but will need to find funds to by the land on which their cattery is situated.

Sandra Branch-Burbridge is the treasurer trustee for the cattery in South Hollow.

She said: 'We own all of the buildings of the cattery but not the land it sits on.

'We really don't want to have to move but we're having to look at that as an option, There's the possibility that it would have to close but we won't let that happen.'

The cattery is currently only taking half of the cats it would usually be able to care for.

Ms Branch-Burbridge continued: 'We've had to turn some cats away which we don't want to do, because all the other sanctuaries in the area are also bursting at the seams.

'We just want to carry on doing the work of Gay and doing it in the way that she would've wanted us to.'

The sanctuary has now organised a fundraising day, called Save our Sanctuary, on September 2.
