An annual surfing competition held in memory of a Lowestoft surf photographer and writer has raised more than £400 for Sheringham lifeboat.

A tribute to Neil Watson has been held every year since he died aged 70 in 2014 from bowel disease.

Organised by his son Daniel and close friends Paul Nicker and Darren Veal, the contest, which attracted around 200 surfing enthusiasts, was held at East Runton, where there is a memorial plaque at the clifftop car park bearing the names of those in the Norfolk surfing and windsurfing community who have died.

Mr Nicker, who lives at Gorleston, said the event aimed to be as informal and low-key as possible, providing a “fitting tribute to a much-loved father, grandfather and friend to so many.”

He added: “Each year, donations are made for charity and, this year, £425 was donated to Sheringham lifeboat as when we heard they were the victims of a break-in at the station, we wanted to support them.”
