Open gardens herald the start of summer in north Norfolk
Summer is on its way and Mannington Hall, near Aylsham, held an open garden last Sunday as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS).
Laura Stevens, a spokeswoman for the Mannington Estate, said: “Over 300 people visited enjoying the first sunshine and over £1,800 was raised for the NGS’s charities.
“Another NGS open day will be held on the evening of June 21 when the famous Heritage Rose Garden will be in full bloom.
“A private view was also held to launch ‘The Garden Exhibition – A Historic Review of the Walpole Gardens’, This will be open to visitors once the gardens open for the season at the end of May.”
The gardens around the medieval moated manor feature a wide variety of plants, trees and shrubs in different settings. Throughout the gardens are many roses, especially classic varieties. They are open in the summer on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
