North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, who suffered a stroke earlier this year, has pulled out of opening a new shop in North Walsham this weekend.

Mr Lamb was due to cut the ribbon at the new Specsavers shop in Market Place at 11am on Saturday, May 12.

A store spokesman said: 'Unfortunately, due to recent well-publicised circumstances regarding his health, he will now no longer be able to attend the official opening. The store will now officially be opened by Sallie Stuckey, the Mayor of North Walsham, instead.'

The store will be giving away goodie bags, and a glass of bucks fizz (or orange juice for kids) and cakes to customers who pop into the store on the launch day.

Mr Lamb, 60, has vowed to continue his role but has admitted he needs to 'work smarter' after the 'life-changing' health scare, and scale down his official commitments.
