A coastal village is to receive its first off-street car parking, after councillors backed the scheme.

Currently, the only parking on offer in the village of Bacton is on roadside verges, however, a new car park is to be built in a £30,000 investment.

The scheme will see land near Cable Gap utilised, in a project resurrected from one abandoned in 2001.

Members of North Norfolk District Council’s cabinet unanimously voted in favour of the proposals, which set out plans for a 52-space car park - including 12 disabled bays.

The car park will also serve as an information centre for those wishing to learn more about the council’s sandscaping scheme for the coastline from the village to Walcott.

Richard Price, deputy leader of the council, said: “This is an exciting time for our coast and with the sandscaping we can expect lots of people to come and view it.”
