Archant

Young at heart members of North Walsham’s Good Companions’ Club held a joint party to celebrate seven of their members reaching their 90th birthdays during 2010.

The 54-strong club was founded 62 years ago and is believed to be the oldest social club for elderly people in Norfolk.

Last month’s event was a treble red-letter day for husband and wife John and Peggy Riseborough. Not only have they both reached 90 this year but they married 72 years ago in October.

Half a dozen club members are already into their 90s and the oldest is 95, according to secretary Beth Buchanan.

Club meetings are held in North Walsham Community Centre every Friday afternoon when members enjoy activities including bingo, cards and outings.

Party fare was provided by the town’s Cockerel restaurant and the Den-Barrie Duo entertained.
