Mystery surrounds the huge police presence in Cromer at the weekend.

There were dramatic scenes as up to 10 police vehicles, both marked and unmarked cars and vans, joined a Coastguard truck in the seaside resort on Sunday around 1.30pm.

They gathered in the private car park next to the town’s Cliftonville Hotel and were supported by a helicopter flying overhead.

A police sergeant at the scene said they were searching for a missing man as part of a county-wide operation.

However, Norfolk Constabulary’s press office has today (Monday), said they were unaware of any incidents involving the police helicopter that afternoon.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Couldn’t find any CADs (computer record) of missing people where NPAS (The National Police Air Service) were called.”

But he added: “There was a search for a missing woman yesterday evening in Cromer. We wouldn’t release any more details of the woman as she was found.”
