Visitors to the town were worried the dirty fountain pouring from a promenade drain may have been sewerage but an investigation confirmed it was surface water washed out from road gulleys.
Anglian Water and council environmental health officers both said it was 'nothing serious'.
The ghastly gusher on the west beach at the bottom of the Melbourne slope was traced back to its source by workmen.
