Cromer's re-elected mayor promised to build on her first year in office and step up the focus on facilities for young people as she began her second term.

Hilary Thompson, who runs The Cottage pub on Louden Road, was voted in for a second year at Monday's annual meeting of Cromer Town Council, with Yvonne Nolan staying on as her deputy mayor.

Mrs Thompson said: 'The reason I wanted to do a second term is because we've made good ground this year on things like setting up the youth club and getting other things going.

'I wanted to see things through. We've got specially-designed, environmentally friendly street lights being put in, the football posts have been bought to go on Fearns Field, and there are other things to do for the youth in the town.'

She added that she would 'keep pushing' for a solution to the shortage of sporting facilities in Cromer, particularly with Cromer Town FC and Cromer Cricket Club likely to be moved from their existing homes when their leases run out in the next three years.

She said: 'Twenty-five years ago the council had the chance to push for a Cromer bypass, but it wasn't strong enough. We have to move now to secure sporting facilities for Cromer. If we don't move now we will regret it.

'We need to be bold now. Benji Cabbell-Manners says he's happy for land on Roughton Road to be used. We must press ahead.'
