'The people of Norfolk rallied' - Mum thanks local community for reuniting son with beloved X-Men toy
A young boy from Foulsham is overjoyed to be reunited with his best friend and most prized possession - a doll version of X-Men's Jean Grey.
10-year-old Harry Glew was left distraught and completely ‘shutdown’ after losing his favourite toy while out in Norwich on Thursday, April 5.
“He has Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), sensory processing disorder (SPD) and severe anxiety,” said Sarah Glew, Harry’s mum.
She added, “The doll is the only that makes him go places.”
However the family were left frantically retracing their steps around the city after they realised she had gone missing. After a failed search, Ms Glew then posted on Facebook, pleading with people to share the post in the hope that Jean be found.
Her post generated over 500 shares and lots of comments of support.
“It’s amazing the lengths people go to and the people of Norfolk certainly rallied.”
The family, who are from Foulsham, then received word that the doll had been found at IKEA in Norwich.
Ms Glew’s other-half rushed down to the store in the early hours of the morning to retrieve Jean. The staff also very kindly produced a video for Harry, telling him that Jean had been away for the night because she was busy helping them in the store.
Ms Glew shared the video on Facebook, writing: “After a very long, hard and emotional night I have been overwhelmed by people’s kindness, efforts and amazing desire to help.
“I would like to post this, only one word to all you lovely people that shared, looked, offered to look, kind words anything...thank you! My boy’s reaction to this was to burst into tears, as did I.”
Harry had an emotional reunion with Jean and is certainly glad to have her back after a restless night.
