With just over three weeks to go, community groups, town and parish councils, and royal-watchers are finalising their plans to join one of the biggest parties of the year.

Street parties, beer festivals, fireworks, big screens, and prince and princess contests are all being planned to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Royal Wedding fever has certainly gripped residents across Norfolk and Suffolk and the EDP can reveal there are more than 50 events planned for the region after figures released last night confirmed the amount of road closures there will be on the big day.

More than half of these events will be street parties where roads will be transformed with the sight of bunting stretching from home to home, neighbours chatting in the roads and union flags in the air.

Susan Graves is part of a committee of six residents working hard to finalise their street party on Eastgate Street, North Elmham, near East Dereham.

The celebrations in the village will see children in fancy dress, adults wearing red, white or blue and people bringing their own picnic.

She said: 'The response we have had in the village has been fantastic – beyond anything I could have imagined and hoped for.

'The older residents have been very supportive because they remember the old street parties but the new residents here have been just as keen because they want to get to know the other villagers.

'We decided to have a street party to celebrate the Royal Wedding because we were very keen to make it a community event and bring people together.

'We also wanted it to be a day the children in the village will remember and I think it is going to be a great day for everyone – I am just hoping for good weather.'

She added: 'I am not too surprised how many events there are across the region going by the brilliant response we have had and the amount of willing volunteers.'

As well as the 29 street parties across Norfolk and Suffolk, there are also large events planned in Norwich, King's Lynn, Cromer, Downham Market, Fakenham, Diss, Dereham, Swaffham, Beccles and Wells for before, on the day of and after the Royal Wedding.
