Money to improve community facilities at Stalham town hall is part of a retirement homes package set for approval next week.

Retirement homes builder McCarthy and Stone's amended plans for a former abattoir site in Upper Staithe Road will be discussed by North Norfolk District councillors at a development committee meeting on Thursday, May 17.

One of the conditions of the officers' recommendation to approve is that the developer pays £20,000 to improve facilities at the town hall, and £2250 for library provision, as part of a section 106 agreement.

The plans would see the demolition of existing buildings and the erection of retirement living housing for the elderly, including 30 apartments, 12 bungalows and car parking.

The site is occupied by buildings that formed part of an abattoir business that closed down in 2008, plus a bungalow. Those in favour of the plans said it would be a good use of a derelict site.
