Rich in fishing, maritime and tourist tradition, Sheringham has long been considered a gem on north Norfolk's coast.

Rows of quaint fisherman's cottages and stacks of crabbing pots are symbols of the town's fishing industry past and present.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, at its peak, more than 100 boats set out daily from the shore, mainly to catch lobster and crab.

The arrival of the railways meant the morning haul could be transported to London where it was served in the capital's restaurants fresh from the sea - putting Sheringham firmly on the map nationally. And while boat numbers are much reduced today, it still remains important to the town's tradition.
