Archant

A sailing boat and a wedding car were among the wacky contraptions hurtling through Sheringham town centre as part of the annual carnival street races, which saw crowds in their hundreds line the pavements to pelt competitors with flour-filled missiles and water bombs.

The event kicked off with a children’s race won by 13-year-old Northamptonshire Boys Brigade members Thomas Nelson and Mason Howard, with Tom Codling, who married fiancée Kayleigh at Southrepps Church on Saturday, taking the adults’ race trophy with new father-in-law Kevin Webb.

Parent and child winners were Bruce and Alex Lockhart, of Melton Constable, while street race regulars Kevin Pitcher and his daughter Roseanna, 7, won the best overall category and Emma White, Ryan Nesbit and Adam Groom bagged first place in the

new-for-this-year Big Foot contest, which saw teams of three race down High Street on giant, paddle-style ‘feet’.

Thanking all those who helped organise the event, carnival chairman Stuart McClean said: “It was fantastic, the sun was shining and the town was happy – albeit covered in water and flour!”
