Police are warning litterers in North Walsham to clean up their act or face on the spot fines.

Following reports of increased littering in and around the Midland Road area, officers from North Walsham Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have stepped up patrols.

Sergeant Stephen Hughes from North Walsham SNT, said: 'Much of the littering consists of fast food containers and wrappers as a result of small groups gathering in cars to socialise.

'We will be taking details of the vehicles gathered in the area and speaking to the owners, passengers, and others gathered to remind them to take home their rubbish or dispose of it correctly, if this is ignored then enforcement may be necessary and on the spot fines of up to 50 could be issued.'

The SNT can be contacted on 0845 4564567.
