The lifeboat crew in Wells was dispatched this morning after a member of public reported hearing a ‘cry for help’.

The Wells Inshore Lifeboat was launched shortly after 8am on Friday after they were asked to assist the local coastguard team in carrying out a search.

The call to the coastguard was made by a member of the public who reported hearing a cry for help in the marshes at Burnham Overy Staithe.

The Inshore Lifeboat crew commenced a thorough search of the creeks and the Coastguard helicopter was also scrambled and arrived on scene at 9am to search the landside of Scolt Head island and the Gun Hill areas of Burnham Overy Staithe.

Nothing was found during the search and both the helicopter and the lifeboat were stood down.

The lifeboat returned to Station at 9.50am.
