LETTER: ‘Our town has a vision and objectives to work towards’
PUBLISHED: 15:21 22 January 2019 | UPDATED: 15:24 22 January 2019
As a result of the work initiated by Sheringham’s deputy mayor Liz Withington and myself, Sheringham’s mayor Madeleine Ashcroft, and now developed by town councillors, Sheringham Town Council has a vision statement and objectives to work to.
A town plan, formulated from the engagement project with the community which was undertaken by the council, is almost completed with only the youth strategy to finish.
A business plan is coming to fruition and council processes are being brought both up to date and to match best practice, including the adoption of electronic accounting and consideration of digital asset management.
The town centre group has enabled community groups to meet and to pull a plan together for the development and improvement of our town centre.
Sheringham Town Council did not have any of this in place previously.
Change is always difficult but necessary and it is important that people are able to discuss and agree a way forward.
Preventing any change doesn’t improve decision making - indeed it just wastes precious time and energy in fighting petty meaningless battles.
Our town deserves and should expect better.
We thank those many councillors and the council staff who have supported the changes and are moving us to a place where we believe we can truly represent the town’s priorities and make a difference for our wonderful and increasingly vibrant community.
