I read, with dismay, the other day, of the North Norfolk District Council's threat to close down the Holt Woodland Archery and Air Rifle Club.

On July 4, I read the harrowing story of ex-Queen's Dragoon Guardsman Phill Hannah.

What has happened to the Armed Services Covenant, to which I thought the district council was a signatory?

Here we have a privately-funded operation which carries out an excellent job on behalf of our ex-servicemen, a job which should be funded by the taxpayer, and which the district council sees fit to try and destroy.

All because a few residents find it occasionally noisy. The site is on the other side of the A148 and at least 100 yards from domestic dwellings.

When I was a councillor we bent rules for the greater good.

I am just wondering whether I should throw my name back into the hat for the next election in order to bring some common sense back into local government.
